About us

We are one of the country’s leading housing associations with more than 6,500 homes.

Our quality affordable housing includes general rented and sheltered accommodation. Over half our homes are in Cumbernauld, Renfrewshire and Glasgow, where our headquarters is located. Sanctuary stock can be found as far north as Fraserburgh and as easterly as Aberdeen and Dundee.

By working with others we have created communities where people are proud to live. As a not-for-profit organisation any surpluses are invested in our services, homes and neighbourhoods. We encourage tenants to challenge our performance and suggest how we can do better.

We are a member of Sanctuary Group, one of the UK’s leading social landlords. In August 2016 we merged with Sanctuary Group’s two other Scottish housing organisations – Tenants First Housing Co-operative and Cumbernauld Housing Partnership – to create a larger Sanctuary Scotland more able to meet our tenants’ needs.

Our homes in Scotland are managed from local offices in:

  • Aberdeen
  • Cumbernauld
  • Dundee
  • Glasgow
  • Peterhead

A registered Scottish charity, we were established in 1996 and registered with Scottish Homes, now the Scottish Housing Regulator, in 1998.

Your local office and housing officer want to help you sustain your tenancy. Any questions about your tenancy should be directed to the contact details found in your sign up pack. If your local office cannot help, our staff will do their best to help you contact someone who can.

Please note your local office and housing officer cannot order repairs to your home. All repairs issues should be reported directly to our Customer Service Centre.

Our commitment to equality and diversity helps us meet the needs of people vulnerable as a result of characteristics including gender, race and sexuality. We abide by the Data Protection Act with your personal information.

Maintaining your home

Our in-house maintenance company, Sanctuary Maintenance, repairs all of our homes.

You can report a repair at any time, day or night, on any day of the year. Our Customer Service Centre will log the issue and arrange for maintenance staff to visit you and make the repair.

With multi-skilled operatives across a range of building trades, we aim to fix the issue first time.

Anyone visiting your home on our behalf will carry photographic identification. If someone cannot prove who they are:

If you fail to keep an appointment you may be charged for the cost of the visit.

Maintaining your neighbourhood

Our grounds maintenance staff deliver a variety of services including communal grass cutting.

We also provide an estates cleaning service. Our teams work hard to keep your area looking its best.

Sanctuary Scotland board of management

Our Board of Management contributes to the governance, strategic direction and growth of Sanctuary Scotland. The Board plays a valuable role in shaping the management and delivery of Sanctuary Scotland’s housing and services. Three operational sub-committees and an equality and diversity committee report to the Board.

Sanctuary’s mission is to remain a market leader in the provision of high quality housing, nursing and residential care, and community services. We strive to secure continued excellence in customer satisfaction, value for money and sustainable growth, and these priorities form part of every decision that we make and help us to deliver quality homes and services to our customers.

To ensure our mission is supported by our procurement, a Sanctuary Group Procurement Strategy (PDF 169KB) has been developed and published.

It details how we will continue to deliver exceptional value for money, how we work with our suppliers and our responsibilities with regards to contract management.

As a registered provider, we work in line with EU procurement directives to advertise and award tenders
