We have added Browsealoud, a website accessibility tool, to the Sanctuary Scotland website. Whether you are using a smartphone, tablet, PC or Mac, Browsealoud will provide the reading support tools you require for free.
Browsealoud is a toolbar that provides reading support on websites. Browsealoud reads website content out loud, highlighting each word as it is spoken in a high quality, human-sounding voice. Other features include:
- Text magnifier
- Picture dictionary
- Talking translator
- MP3 maker
- Screen mask
Browsealoud helps any website visitor who requires online reading support or simply wishes to listen to the information on this website instead of reading it. Browsealoud is particularly useful for those with print disabilities such as dyslexia or mild visual impairments and those with English as a second language.
Browsealoud is free to use and has already been added to this website.
To use Browsealoud, simply click on the Browsealoud icon to launch the toolbar. The icon is an orange circle with a black letter 'b' and headphones, which appears on the left-hand side of the page, towards the bottom when the website loads. Once you have clicked on this icon, the Browsealoud toolbar will expand and the full suite of tools will be available for you to use. Each button performs a different function.
You may find this video from Browsealoud helpful as it explains more about how to use the Browsealoud toolbar.
